BV Friday Adventure #5 Story and Photos

This was our biggest group yet!! And there were lots of new folks-- hopefully no one scared away because as you see in the photos this was the muddiest run of the 08 season. We started the adventure as one big group-- and quickly spread out into a trio of groups. From Bryant Cabin the groups went 3 different ways -- 1. Birch Loop, 2. Heavenly Highway to Moose Glen and 3. Heavenly Highway to Stowe View. The bog areas on Heavenly Highway were incredibly wet and it made the adventure quite amusing-- no shoes were totally lost in the muck, but there were several close calls ... and some serious laughing by all.

And as luck would have it all the groups returned to the Nordic Center within 5 minutes of each other for some Coffee Talk and pumpkin scones.

For the record- Annie and Mackenzie showed up only couple minutes late-- but not in time to make it into the official photo.

Pumpkin Scones

I baked these scones for Friday BV Adventure. The ingredients are mostly good for you- fresh local pumpkin and some King Arthur Flour. And a maple syrup frosting.

Friday Bolton Adventure #5... ready set go!!

This is a photo I took last weekend of Bolton from the West--I was hanging out at Catamount watching my Bro Jake race cyclocross.

So the leaves are finally almost on the ground at Bolton. . . and despite this record warm temps this week it looks like Fall on the hill. We have been busy planning some cool winter programs for the 08 season and I'm getting psyched to ski.

This is the plan folks:
Meet at the Bolton Nordic Center
This Friday 5pm for running and hiking- we will leave promptly because it's going to get dark early.
All abilities welcome!
Route- To be decided
And please bring someone new + carpool!

The weather looks ok only a 30% chance of rain on Friday and 60 deg, but it might be a little colder in the hills.- NOAA.

BV Friday Adventure #4 Story and Photo

It was still light when we went out this afternoon, but so dark as we stumbled in from World Cup Loop. The tower at the top of the Quad was fun to climb- but there was no view because we were in a cloud. The nice thing was that it never rained... but there was plenty of mud out on the mtn. Jake had new shoes on, Kate had lots of apples to share, Nicole was the navigator, Tremble was in a hurry to finish the run and Molly let loose on the downhill.

All in all a great adventure-

BV Friday Adventure #4 -- Update

2005 Foret Montmorency- So much snow!!

2:15pm Friday Update- No rain yet! but lots of wind. NOAA Radar Image shows some storms coming this way... the run is still on and if it's bad we will stay on the lower trails in case a mad dash back to the nordic center is necessary.

BV Friday Adventure #3 Review

Today's Gang- We ran some of the trails that are groomed nordic trails in the winter- Up Telemark to Bobcat to Lynx, then down Broadway to the bottom of Maple Loop to Spruce Run and back up the hill on Broadway. It was raining all day here, so we all got pretty wet, but it was lots of fun. And the forecast is for snow flurries this weekend...

Beautiful October Sky.

Last night there was an amazing bank of clouds rolling through Bolton from the south... this photo looks to the NW towards the Bryant Cabin Area...

BV Friday Adventure #2

We had an awesome run last Friday and it was an all ladies adventure-- Kate, Emilia, Molly, Helen, Aubrey and Liz. Aubrey was visiting from Williamstown, MA and was ready to run after a day in the car. Then at the last minute Emilia showed up- traveling all the way from Baltimore, MD. It was a running reunion.
The route was Bryant Trail > Heavenly Highway > Peggy Dow's and then to the top of Lift 1 on the work road. We just b-lined it down the work rd after a couple minutes at the top because it was starting to get dark. Molly was the star of the run. She crossed the boggy sections on Heavenly Highway so fast that her feet barely got wet.
The view from the top of Lift 1 was amazing. To the North Mt. Mansfield, to the South Camel's Hump and of course the Western view of Lake Champlain/Adirondacks was great.

BV Friday Adventure #1Review

The second Friday Adventure at BV . . . the leaves are changing.
Get your weekend started with an outdoor adventure!!
Friday October 5th
meet at the Bolton Nordic Center
5pm ready to run- because the days are getting shorter
[1 hour-1.5 hour run/ hike]
and lets eat dinner at Bailey's Restaurant at Bolton after the run/hike.

Run #1 the real story
Last week we had a great run- althought it was a little longer than expected because we missed a turn and ended up running farther south on the Long Trail than planned. But it all worked out fine- we got back inside the BV Nordic Center just at dark and minutes before some heavy rain.

Along they way we stopped twice- #1 was for a couple minutes at Harington's View (2600') to look back at BV, Camel's Hump and the rest. Scott almost went over the edge, but Tremble pulled him back in. Stacy, Helen and I took a couple minutes to do some pushups -- and then we were back on the trail. #2 was at Buchanan Shelter (21500') where we visited with 2 guys camping out for the night... they seemed surprised to see a group of runners. I think it was because in our hour run we had travelled the same route they were planning to spend the whole next day hiking.

The route was-- Cliffhanger> Eagles Nest> North Ridge - aka Long Trail South to Buchanan Shelter and back up the hill on> Maple Loop/Broadway.
